 After our days in the Andes it was the first time back to the Pacific. When driving west, the Atacama desert leads directly to the Pacific - exactly here is the port city of Iquique (about 200,000 inhabitants), which only since 1883 belongs to Chile (previously Peru) . Originally as a large saltpetre port Iquique is now an industrial center with fish and oil processing plants. Tourism is also increasing in the handsome city. |
