Halbinsel Snaefellsness

 The peninsula Snaefellsness (German "Schneeberghalbinsel") is located in the west of Iceland. The region is shaped by the large, 1446m high volcano Snaefellsjökul, which is located on the extreme western tip of the peninsula. The volcano, which is also a glacier, is also the center of the national park of the same name. Jule Verne chose in his classic "Journey to the Center of the Earth" this place as the entrance to the interior of the earth. Due to the many different sights, the peninsula is often also called "Iceland in miniature" because you can find everything that is typical for Iceland: volcanoes, glaciers, lava fields and craters, waterfalls, white and black beaches and, last but not least, rugged rocks that jut out of the Atlantic like trolls... |
