 Our last stop before returning to the capital of Chile is Antofagasta on the Pacific Ocean. For the first time we experience the political unrest that struck Chile's bigger cities in the fall of 2019. Many businesses are closed and barricaded because of fear from violence and looting. In the evening or at night there is a curfew. But Outside the immediate center it is quiet and peaceful and so we can still experience some of the flair of the beautiful city between the desert and the ocean. |

von Antofagasta findet man inmitten der Atacama die "Mano del
Desierto", die Wüstenhand, eine 11m hohe Skulptur, die 1992 geschaffen

| Unweit der Wüstenhand ist das Observatorium Paranal mit dem Very Large Telescope (VLT) zu finden. 4 Großteleskope mit jeweils 8m Spiegeldurchmesser beobachten hier unter einem der dunkelsten Himmel der Erde. war ein Besuch gebucht, der allerdings leider durch die angespannte
Situation in Chile von der ESO kurzfristig abgesagt wurde :-( So war es nur möglich, das Observatorium aus weiter Ferne zu sehen.... Originally a visit was booked, which unfortunately was canceled by the ESO at short notice due to the tense situation in Chile :-( So it was only possible to see the observatory from afar ....
