 Buenos Aires was actually the beginning of our South American adventure. We spent a few days here to get to know the city and to visit friends. Then the journey continued to Chile. The capital of Argentina is the cultural, political and commercial center of the country. With about 13 million inhabitants about one third of the total population of Argentina lives in this metropolitan area. Argentina was a military dictatorship 1976-1983 in which tens of thousands of people disappeared - a dark time in the history of the country. After the defeat in the Falklands War (1982), the militaries could not hold and there were again democratic elections. Recurring economic crises continue to burden Argentina until today and the people suffer great differences between poor and rich ... |
