Valley of the Gods - 2013
Das Valley of the Gods ist eine rund 55m² große Ebene an der südöstlichen
Grenze von Utah zu Arizona. Ganz in der Nähe liegt
der Ort Mexican Hat, der durch den gleichnamigen, markanten Felsen, Bekanntheit
erlangt hat. Oft wird das Gebiet auch "kleines Monument Valley"
genannt, da die Sandstein Monolithen dem wesentlich bekannteren Monument Valley
ähneln. Über eine 27km lange und z.T. recht holprige
Schotterpiste kann man quer durch das Valley fahren. Die markante rötliche
Färbung der Felsen resultiert aus dem Eisenoxid, das im Gestein enthalten
ist.
